Legislative Report: Week 3

This week saw a ton of new bills filed. The final day for legislators to introduce an unlimited number of bills was Thursday, January 29th. The deadline for introducing bills is February 4th. Current bill count: 264 House bills and 218 Senate bills. We are one-third of the way through the 2026 Session! The Session meets February 2-6 this week, which is one of two 5-day weeks.

Our next Legislative Update will be held by Zoom on February 6, 2026, at 12:00 PM Central Time. I hope to see you there and look forward to answering your questions!

Two Powerful Days

Day One (May 18): Training, Messaging & Mission Alignment

Our first day equips every attendee, from returning advocates to first-timers, with the clarity, confidence, and unified message needed to make a real impact. You’ll receive in-depth policy briefings, advocacy training, and expert insights.

Day Two (May 19): Day on the Hill

This is when your training becomes action. NAIFA members meet with senators, representatives, and congressional staff to advocate for policies that protect consumers, support small businesses, and strengthen the work you do every day as a trusted financial professional.

Join NAIFA-South Dakota for Legislative Day in Pierre on February 10, 2026. Our afternoon will begin at the Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce Community Room, 800 W Dakota Ave, Pierre, SD, at 1:00 PM Central, and we will conclude our day with a Reception with Legislators at 5:00 PM at the St. Charles Lounge, 207 E. Capitol Ave, Pierre, SD.

Join NAIFA-South Dakota for Legislative Day in Pierre on February 10, 2026. Our afternoon will begin at the Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce Community Room at 1:30 PM Central. We will have an informative discussion on the legislative session, a board meeting to which all are invited to attend, a representative from Senator Thune's office, and to cap off our afternoon, we will hear from our lobbyist, Darla Rogers. She will guide us on our talking points to discuss with Legislators we will meet at the 5:00 PM reception.
